Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It is one of the oldest forms of dance dating back to the 1500’s! It is more of a classical expressive movement, teaching proper posture, technique, poise, grace, and discipline. It teaches and demands precision and accuracy in performance to convey the vision of the choreographer. It is usually rehearsed and performed to classical music however modern ballet is becoming more prominent and can veer from the norm.

Jazz

Jazz is a free form of dance that follows most of the ballet technique however is high energy and faster paced. There are many forms of jazz: from the classical jazz following more to the techniques of ballet, to the modern jazz that breaks away from this and works in more abstract body positions and patters.

Tap

is the most rhythmic forms of dance. It uses shoes that have metal taps on the ball of the foot and on the heel to create sounds with your feet! Using the same idea as basic music theory, entire ‘phrases’ of music are created to match, accent and build upon already existing songs that are being danced to.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop becoming one of the most popular forms of dace as it is seen all over television, movies, music videos, and even commercials. Hip Hop does not follow the basic techniques of ballet and jazz as it has its own genre of technique. Using combinations of levels and patterns, hip hop is an exploding energetic dance form. Hip Hop is also known to incorporate some techniques of acrobatics.

Acro

Acro or acrobatics is based on strength and control. Learning techniques to strengthen the body and condition it. Learning the techniques and steps in order to be able to progress from simple movements to more complex. For example from a cartwheel to an ariel (cartwheel with no hands). Also incorporating this agility with dance to have an exceptional combination of dance and acrobatics.

Musical Theatre

Diving into character development, musical theatre has some dance elements but mainly focuses on understanding a character and bringing that personality to life on stage. This class teaches how to understand the different levels of character development within one piece. How a character can have various emotions and how to flow from one to the other to create dimension within the character and the piece.
